About Fat Quarter

Fat Quarter was set up in 2009 as a magazine for, about and by intelligent, savvy, creative, crafty women (and men too).

During that time we’ve covered everything from books to boylesque, interviewed ace bands and authors, and featured the observations of numerous talented writers. We’ve also diversified into print (with launch parties of course!). Issue one was published in February 2010 and includes all sorts of goodies including interviews with Trash Kit, queen of noir Cathi Unsworth and feminist author Natasha Walter. Issue two came out in September 2010 and has interviews with Warpaint, artists Good Wives and Warriors, a make your own skirt pattern and a short story by the fabulous Michele Roberts.

We’ve been written about by Mslexia, made by anushka, pamflet and for books’ sake.

FQ is an independent and collaborative affair with a team of regular contributors. If you would like to take part too, please go here.

Why ‘Fat Quarter’?

An actual ‘fat quarter’ is a certain size of material used in quilt-making; so it sounds a bit crafty, a bit arty,a bit feminine . . . rather like FQHQ in fact, although with less bunting.
