About Fat Quarter
Fat Quarter was set up in 2009 as an antidote to the rafts of women’s glossies (you know who they are). It is also inspired by enterprising publications such as Bust and Bitch in the US, and Subtext, Uplift, Knockback, thefword, bitchbuzz, jezebel and many more online. The time is NOW for women-friendly magazines and the web is our friend.
The editor
Katie A is a London-based journalist who in her time has produced several feminist zines that reached audiences of literally tens of people. The web seemed the best way to enable her dream of producing a women’s magazine for and about intelligent, savvy, cultural, creative, crafty women.
Why ‘Fat Quarter’?
An actual ‘fat quarter’ is a certain size of material used in quilt-making; so it sounds a bit crafty, a bit arty,a bit feminine, and similar to ‘quarterly’.
